Debra Koffler, Executive Director

Debra is a filmmaker and long-time community arts educator in the Bay Area.

In 2001, she became the Founder and Executive Director of Conscious Youth Media Crew, a San Francisco based digital film production program training high risk youth in direct cinema style storytelling.

Debra produced the widely acclaimed documentary film “Beats, Rhymes, and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest”, with actor/director Michael Rapaport.  An official selection  at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Beats Rhymes and Life was subsequently picked up for nationwide theatrical distribution by Sony Pictures Classics. Hailed by critics for its raw approach and compelling story, Beats Rhymes and Life won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at 2011 LA Film Festival and 2011 Sao Paolo International Film Festival, was nominated for a Producer’s Guild Award, and most recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video.

Debra also does media consulting, and freelance work as a camera-woman, editor and producer.Her focus and commitment is to manifest our divine potential in life through film, music, and art.

Jose Luis Mejia, Lead Program Facilitator

Born and raised in San Francisco and East Oakland, Jose-Luis Mejia has been devoted to serving youth for the past 6 years. Jose-Luis has served the community as a mentor, life-skills and media instructor, TAY policy advocate, and general activist. Jose-Luis is also the Young Adult Engagement Coordinator at TAYSF, Chair Advisor for ¡Ya Basta!, Nor-Cal Rep for the Puente Project, student at CCSF, and a proud father.

Leah Weitz, Program Management

Leah Weitz is an artist, activist and organizer and budding entrepreneur from the San Francisco Bay Area. For the past 3 years she has worked as a Case Manager and group facilitator, engaging youth in social justice issues and development of critical thinking skills, through photography and public speaking.

Daniel Truog, Guest Artist

Dan Truog is a commercial video editor. For the past six years, he has worked at various San Francisco post-houses and ad agencies. In his free time, he writes and directs short films and music videos.
